13 Eerily Healthy Halloween Eats: Vegan Treats Your Kids (and YOU!) Will Love

Updated: Sep 23, 2022

Mariposa as a scary pirate 🏴‍☠️

Disclosure: The following brands did not sponsor the Halloween roundup, but did offer samples of their products.

As the holiday season approaches, children gear up for the most thrilling night of the year. Spooky automated ghosts holler from darkened porch steps at passers-by, and mothers stay up late to sew the details into their daughter’s dream costumes, hoping to make their fantasies come true. But the Halloween festivities are not exactly known for being healthy, and kids loaded up on added sugars often end the night in disastrous ways, somehow more nightmarish than the decorations. While it can be difficult to encourage healthy eating on Halloween, it’s not necessarily impossible. Below is a list of ethically moral companies that provide delicious sweets with simple ingredients that will (probably) not have your children running up walls at 12 AM.

Fruit snacks (made simply with fruit!), flavors include: cantaloupe, mango, apple, strawberry, banana, tangerine, pear and pineapple

Mouthwatering and naturally sweetened, these dried fruits are low in calories and high in nutrients. They are great for adding to dishes for an extra crunch and are available in so many flavors you’re sure to find one to fall in love with. Kids will love them too! Their taste and texture are just like what you might imagine spaceship food to be. If that wasn’t enough, Crispy Green is currently having a Halloween costume contest for your pets. So, if your puppy has a spooky Halloween outfit to share, take a picture and apply on their website for a chance to win.

Here’s what we love about Crispy Green:

  • They offer .35 ounce bags—perfect for Halloween treats!

  • Non-GMO

  • Gluten-Free

  • Oil-Free

  • Nut-Free

  • 100% Whole Food

  • Attention Pet Owners! They are holding an online pet costume contest! Get the details here.

Purchase Crispy Green on their website or on Amazon.

Fruit snacks that include veggies too!

Flavors: strawberry & acai, mango & orange, banana & blueberry

These were quite a taste bud explosion and so filling. I think the best words to use are “crisp” “clean” and “addictive.” Personally, I can’t get enough of these. Slammers are wonderful for a kid who needs a little sustenance between houses on a long night of trick or treating. After just one squeeze, I instantly found myself recharged.

Here’s what the purely planted team loves about Slammers:

  • Great size for treats (3.17 oz)

  • Organic

  • Non-GMO

  • Gluten-Free

  • Oil-Free

  • Nut-Free

  • 100% Whole Food

  • Adorable packaging and branding for kids!

Purchase Slammers on their website or on Amazon.

Flavors: Fuji and reds & cinnamon apple chips, banana chips, coconut chips

Bare snacks are the crunchiest of the dried fruit brands and an excellent alternative to chips for you and your kids. They are a classic that I always have in my pantry. To be honest, I’m snacking on them in this moment as I write this review…

Here’s what the purely planted team loves about Bare Snacks:

  • Great size for treats - .53 ounce online

  • 4 grams of fiber per serving

  • Less than 5 ingredients

  • Non-GMO

  • Gluten-Free

  • Oil-Free

  • Nut-Free

  • 100% Whole Food

Granola Mini Bars

These little granola bars are super chocolaty with a delightful cinnamon-spice aftertaste. They are excellent for kids with allergies and/or sensitivities to food. They even sneak in a serving of vegetables you could never taste for the picky eaters in your neighborhood. If you want to try out all the flavors they have a great variety-box option on Amazon.

Here’s what we love about Made Good:

  • They're bite-sized! They even come in a Halloween-friendly box with 30 bars included.

  • Organic

  • 3 grams of fiber per serving

  • Non-GMO

  • Gluten-Free

  • Nut-Free

  • Each pack has a full serving of hidden vegetables and vitamins A, C, D, E, and B6.

5. Perfect Life Nutrition

P-nuff Crunch Baked Peanut Puffs

These treats have a delicious peanut butter flavor, like a healthier cocoa puff minus all the sugar. Somehow they are a bit sweet and salty at the same time. If you are looking for a plant-based protein option for your child’s active lifestyle, look no further. Make sure to get an order of the small bags to hand out for Halloween and the bigger bag you can keep to yourself for a pre or post-workout snack.

Here’s what we love about Perfect Life Nutrition:

  • They come in bite-sized bags for trick-or-treaters!

  • 3 grams of fiber per serving

  • Non-GMO

  • Gluten-Free

  • The first ingredient is navy beans!

Purchase Pnuff Crunch on their website or on Amazon.

Also, how cool that they were on Shark Tank!

Mint and coconut thins; Also, coming soon—bonbons (too bad they weren't available now since they make the perfect Halloween-size treat!)

Wow, this chocolate is so rich. They have a melt-in-your-mouth smooth, buttery, slightly bitter flavor that will satisfy your strongest after-dinner cravings. There are four pieces per box, which is a little too much to give out all at once on Halloween. Each piece is a great bite-sized treat and individually wrapped, making it easy to give out individually. Either way, if you miss the glory of a Girl Scout thin mint, congratulations! Here’s a better, dairy-free, gluten-free version!

Here’s what we love about Blissfully Better:

  • They’re perfect to give out individually wrapped!

  • Organic

  • 3 grams of fiber per serving

  • Total ingredients range, but never more than 6!

  • Non-GMO

  • No gluten ingredients

  • Some flavors are nut-free (make sure to check ingredients!)

  • They sponsor Place of Hope, a human trafficking prevention and education program

Purchase Blissfully Better on their website or on Amazon.

Munchrooms Original, Cracked Pepper or Spicy Mushroom Jerky

As a disclaimer, it has been a very long time since I have eaten real jerky, but I have to say, these satisfy that urge perfectly. They have a sweet, earthy aroma and a complex, umami flavor with a chewy texture just like jerky, but with none of the guilt. Look out for their adorable munchroom stickers with your order!

Here’s what we love about Munchrooms:

  • 8 grams of fiber per serving!

  • Less than 5 ingredients

  • Gluten-Free

  • Oil-Free

  • Nut-Free

  • Non-GMO

  • They give out fun stickers with online orders!

Purchase Munchrooms on their website or on Amazon.

Vegky Original or Spicy Mushroom Jerky

Similar to Munchroom, Vegky is a wonderful substitute for beef jerky. In terms of feeding these to children, it really depends on your child. If they are jerky fans, I think they’ll love these treats. The company uses one of my favorite mushrooms, shitake, and they offer a ton of different flavors to try. I love these are high in plant-based protein and fiber, which makes for a very satisfying snack for anyone in the family.

Here’s what we love about Vegky:

  • 6 grams of fiber per serving!

  • Less than 5 ingredients

  • Non-GMO

  • Gluten-Free

  • Nut-Free

Purchase Vegky on their website or on Amazon.

Date and Cashew Bites

Honestly, the first thing I thought when I tried these was “reindeer.” It might be a little early to be pushing the snowy holiday snacks, but the flavor rings all my holiday bells. It tastes like what an apple cider might be in edible form (a.k.a. yummy!). They’re a great size for a Halloween handout and will put the entire neighborhood in the mood for the yuletide season. Ok, I’m ready to start singing carols now.

Here’s what we love about Sun and Swell:

  • Perfect bite-sized pieces!

  • Organic

  • 4 grams of fiber per serving

  • Less than 5 ingredients!

  • Non-GMO

  • Gluten-Free

  • Oil-Free

  • 100% Whole Food

  • Gives back 1% of profits for the planet (the homepage of their website says "Make your pantry planet-friendly.")

Purchase their products on their website or on Amazon.

Vegan, Fair Trade and organic chocolate that supports women-owned business

This delicious rich dark chocolate reminds me of the fudge we used to make as a family. Eating just one little mini is deliciously satisfying. You can tell this company is run by people who love people and the planet just as much as they love chocolate. Luckily for us, they provide adorable minibars that are perfect for the Halloween candy pile (this is the type of treat that you'll definitely want to steal from the pile!).
